The cooperation between the Government of Azerbaijan and the International Organization for Migration is developing
Ali Hasanov, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs, Chairman of the Republican Commission on International Humanitarian Aid has met with Mr. Laura Thompson, Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) visiting our country on March 7.

The Deputy Prime Minister has said that Azerbaijan has a close cooperation between all the bodies of the International Organization for Migration, including Geneva office.

Ali Hasanov has talked about the work done to improve the leaving conditions of the refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan. He has noted that the work done in connection with the refugees and IDPs by the Government of Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev is highly appreciated. That is why the UN High Commissioner for Refugees has accepted Azerbaijan as a full member of the Executive Committee having the right to vote. Reminding that he participated in the annual session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner for Refugees, Ali Hasanov has mentioned successful activities of UN agencies in Azerbaijan.

Ali Hasanov has also touched upon the activities of the IOM representative office in Azerbaijan. He has noted that the representative office has established close relations with the Government of Azerbaijan.

It has been pointed out that International Organization for Migration has assisted the Government of Azerbaijan by implementing various projects, programs worth $ 30 million. All these projects and programs have been the priority of the Government of Azerbaijan. These projects include fight against human trafficking, restoration of water sources and other important issues.

Laura Thompson, the Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration has thanked for the detailed information, and emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the organization which is represented by her and the Government of Azerbaijan, particularly the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs. She has stated that an inclusive society has been established in Azerbaijan. One of the most active members of the IOM, Azerbaijan is a country of great importance in the region and especially it has a great role as a transit country.

After the meeting, the IOM delegation has visited a residential complex built for IDPs in Masazir settlement of Absheron district. The guests have got acquainted with the conditions crated in Zangilan region senior secondary school No 33, Zangilan Region History and Ethnography Museum.
